DEVELOPMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
Children in the second plane of development move from the absorbent mind of early childhood to the reasoning mind. They are no longer content with simple facts — they want to know the why behind everything. They develop imagination, moral awareness, and a growing sense of justice. Socially, they are eager to collaborate with peers, and they thrive on group projects and community-building experiences.
The Montessori Lower Elementary environment meets these needs by offering big-picture lessons, known as the Great Lessons, which introduce the universe and humanity as a framework for learning. These stories spark curiosity and serve as a unifying foundation for all areas of study.
